1 = Negative double, showing length in the unbid suits, or,
3-card ©-support and a limit raise or better, or,
12+ hcp.
2 = 6+ suit, 11 to a bad 15 hcp.
3 = ª-stopper, less than 2 ©, 11 hcp.
4 = North has the maximum asked for. 3NT looks safer than 4©, for if South has 3 or 4 spades, West is likely to get one or
more ruffs in that suit.
4© may go off 2: ªA, ª ruffed, © to the ace, ª
ruffed, ¨ return, and due to communication
trouble, North has to yield one more trick to §K.
More discussion to follow.

1 = Most Norths will not be able to make a natural 2¨-overcall,
because they use it for some convention.
2 = East may not have a 4-card major, so West must alert.
3 = 4- or 4-card suit, denying 4-card ©-suit.
4 = The void of diamonds and long clubs make East's hand too nice to invite with.
Note that Leufkens introduces his long clubs first, and then forces game with 3ª, giving Westra the option of 5§, in case he does not have a ª-fit.
More discussion to follow.

1 = In Europe, this undersized Muiderberg weak-2 is only
permitted, when the agreed hcp range is explicitly written on the convention card, and,
the term Muiderberg is not used. Otherwise, we are dealing with
a brown sticker convention, which can only used in higher levels of competition, if
the opponents have a description in writing a week in advance.
2 = Even when South holds 4 or more diamonds, and to maximum hcp count, North has too many
losers for game.
3 = 5+ hearts, 11-15 hcp, as if RHO has opened some sort of weak-2.
4 = Add the queen of hearts, and West will raise to game.
More discussion to follow.

1 = Jacoby transfer to 3©.
2 = Real suit, forces game.
3 = Picking the trump suit.
4 = RKCB for hearts (1403-variation).
5 = 2 or 5 out of 5 aces, without queen of trumps.
6 = Missing one of the 5 aces and the queen of trumps, it is unwise to go to slam.
De Boer puts partner in 6¨, but Muller can't
pitch dummy's ©-loser. It looks like Muller
should have signed off in 5¨, on the lead
directing double of Maas. At the other hand, Muller's pass on the double could hardly
promise first round control, so De Boer should have devaluated his §-holdings, and signed of in 5¨
as well.

1 = Multi-colored, based on a maximum weak-2 in ©.
2 = Strong type of takeout double, 16+ hand.
3 = West wants to play 4ª opposite a weak-2 in ©. Semi-preemptive, like 2ª-4ª, for
example.
4 = No honest player can deny he would double for takeout again.
5 = Allows South to pick his best minor.
EW take the first three tricks, unless South ruffs low on the second round of hearts in
trick 2. NS must defend 4ª accurately: § to the ace, ¨K
for the ace, ©J to the ace, ©K, and now, South must ruff ©Q
with ª7.

1 = We try to avoid opening 1NT with 2254 and 2245.
2 = Splinter: 4+ ¨-support,
singleton or void in ª, and 12+ hcp.
The excellent diamonds and top cards make up for the one high card point missing.
3 = East's hand is unqualified for the sort of jump to 4ª,
West made on previous board, but he can't allow 3ª
to pass by undoubled either.
4 = Second round control of spades. 3NT should show at least 1½ stopper.
5 = Serious 3NT, allowing East to cuebid §.
This call can hardly be misunderstood, for it cannot be, that North, all of the sudden,
wants to play 3NT with singleton or void in the suit he just splintered with.
6 = Waiting bid, denying first or second round control of clubs.
7 = Signoff.
In 3NT, South can never make more than 8 tricks on a ª-lead,
unless EW are silly enough to block their suit
