We do not recommend to open 1ª as North. In our bridge youth we experimented quite a
lot with undersized 1-openings, and paid a high price for it.
So this hand is passed out, unless North follows an increasing number of (Dutch) experts:
including a weak 2-suiter in the majors in the (semi-) forcing 2§-opening:

2© is a signoff in case North has the weak 2-suiter. South holds more hearts then
spades. South would respond 2ª with longer spades, and 2¨ with equal length in the
majors.
Although South makes at least 9 tricks on this deal, we are not convinced that we should
mess up our constructive bidding in case opener has a strong hand. Responses of 2©, 2ª
and 2NT (the relay for 15+ hands) force the bidding to an inconvenient level, especially
when the fit cannot be found immediately. In many cases, responder will become declarer in
vital games and slams, and that alone would keep us from messing around with our strong
openings. We feel that we already preempt enough with our multi-2¨, Muiderberg 2ª, and
all our openings from 3§ and up.

1ª = Walsh approach.
3© = Short suit trial.
Some Norths will find enough strength in their hands to jump to raise to 3ª immediately.
