North leads a © to queen, king and ace. West cashes ¨K first, for with the nine
missing, the principle of restricted choice can only work when South has singleton queen
or jack. When North follows with an honor, West has little left but hoping to drop the
other one in the next trick. If South turns out to have three trumps, West can still play
him for three of more clubs to get rid of his ©-loser in time. The slam totals up to
about 90%, so it is really worth a try.
