2ª = 3+ support and 6-9 hcp, or 4+ support and trash. Remember, we bid 3§ with 4+
support, relatively balanced hands, and 6-9 hcp (Bergen raise).
3§ = Short suit game try, often simply called short suit trial.
3ª = West certainly hates the singleton or void opposite his king.
South leads a diamond. East wins the ace, and plays a low club. If South ducks, declarer
will dump his ¨-loser on his king, but South heard the short suit trial, so he rises,
cashes ¨Q, and continues a ¨. East ruffs, crosses in spades, leads another trump for
jack and king, and has no option left but to bang down ©A-K. When the queen and jack
drop, he continues ©T. South may ruff now or later, but that will be his last trick. The
chance of dropping ©OJ doubleton is only 3.4%. The best line for 5 ©-tricks, finessing
with ten and nine succesively, offers a 22%-chance, but cannot be carried out due to lack
of entries to dummy.

1NT = Probably less than 3 spades (the exception is 3 spades with 10-11 hcp), 5-11 hcp.
1RF.
2© = 4+ suit, 11-17 hcp.
3§ = 6+ suit, less than 3 spades, less than 4 hearts, 10-11 hcp. Invite.
Those that if EW play classical 2 over 1-responses, West will respond 2§
to 1ª. In this approach, 3§ in 1ª-1NT-2©-3§ would show 6+ suit but only 5-9 hcp, and
be meant as signoff.

2§ = Good 5+ suit and 11-15 hcp, so there is no point for West to invite to game.
