West downgrades by 1 hcp for his 4333-pattern, and then finds out, he does not meet the
rule of 15: "Don't open in fourth chair, if your high card
points and number of spades do not add up to 15."

2§ = One of several sorts of strong hands.
Dbl = For penalties and §-lead.
2¨ = No 5-card suit headed by KQ or AJT, or
less than 8 hcp, if West does have a good 5-card suit.
Many good players lead the highest card from a solid or broken sequence. There are two
exceptions: they would lead the king from AKJT or AKJTx, and the queen from KQT9 of KQT9x,
asking partner to unblock the queen or jack, respectively. That way, the leader does not
have to look for that queen of jack any more.
This deal shows why. South leads §Q, and North gives him the jack. South knocks out §A.
If NS keep defending correctly, they will set East by 3 tricks.
Of course, EW can make 4©, but West can't investigate this game without risking to find
his side playing in some 4-2 fit.
