2NT = When both opponents have bid, and partner has passed, a rebid of 1NT shows a
balanced 18-19 count. Cases, where RHO has passed, are similar to those where it goes
1ª-pass-pass. In such cases 1NT in fourth chair promises 11-14 hcp. It cannot be, that
such 1NT-rebid could show a balanced 18-19 count at the same time. East has no 4-card
©-suit, so he has no choice but to jump to 2NT.
Analysis to follow.

2§ = Alertable if NS adhere to Stayman relays,
which do not require a 4-card major from the one that responds 2§.
2ª = 4- or 5-card ª-suit, no 4-card ©-suit.
3§ = Natural and forcing, but many partnerships use it as a second relay.
3ª = South must show his extra ª-length.
4ª = We disagree to those that gamble on 3NT. EW have at least
7 hearts between them, and there is no guarantee, that South has adequate stoppers, or
that the suit breaks well. North could easily have a doubleton of hearts. If spades break
worse than 3-2, South may not have time to cash the spades he has set up after the
©-lead, he can expect from any player above the level of complete beginner.

1NT = In our system: one round force, i.e. one of several
patterns, and 5-11 hcp.
2§ = North is a little short of bidding reverse, and 2© would promise 6 or more hearts.
In event of 4522 and minimum hcp strength, North rebids 2§ on a doubleton,
so South must alert.
2NT = Invitational, promising 11 hcp.
