Recommended bidding sequence:

West North East South
--- 1§ 1© dbl
pass 1NT pass 3NT
pass pass pass.

South's negative double promises a 4-card ª-suit, or 12+ hcp, or both. North's hearts are not good enough to allow the double to stand for penalties.

Recommended bidding sequence:

West North East South
--- --- 1§ pass
1ª pass 1NT pass
pass pass.

1ª = If EW adhere to Walsh approach, i.e., bypassing a 4-, 5- or 6-card ¨-suit, when West in not strong enough to reverse, East should alert.

West is not strong enough to search for a ª-fit with Checkback Stayman, so he must rebid 2ª, or confine with 1NT. We prefer the latter, since EW should have enough hcp strength, and there is no guarantee, that 2ª will bring in more tricks.

More analysis to follow.

Recommended bidding sequence:

2¨ 2NT pass pass
pass.

2¨ = Multi colored: weak-2 in a major, or one of several types of strong hands.
2NT = Balanced, ©-stopper, 16-18 hcp.

South should play North for 16-17 hcp, and even when he comes up with 18, NS still have only 24 hcp between them.

Analysis to follow.
