Ranks 2, 4, 7, 8, and 10 actually entered under the names Timmermannen, Koosj Baeter,
Damenenie, Matroosjes, and Gaef Gaes, respectively. In order to make these names
understandable to other bridge players then those of Dutch provinces North Brabant and
Limburg, we anglicized them.
Tournament Regulations Order of Events
Prelims - May 01 and 08 (2 sessions of 24 boards). Quarterfinals - May 15 (4 knockout matches of 24 boards). Semifinals - May 22 (2 knockout matches of 24 boards). Final and playoff for third place - May 29 (2 knockout matches of 24 boards). Playoff for those eliminated in prelims - May 15, 22 and 29 (3 sessions of 24 boards). Playoff for those eliminated in quarterfinals - May 22 and 29 (2 sessions of 24 boards).
Prelims
Prelims will be played on May 01 and May 08 in three parallel groups Blue, Orange, and Green. - Blue group will consist of seeds 1, 6, 7, 12 and 13. - Orange group will consist of seeds 2, 5, 8, and 11. - Green group will consist of seeds 3, 4, 9, and 10. This way, the sum of the top 2 seeds of all groups will equal 7, and the sum of the top 4 seeds of all groups will equal 26. - Blue group will play 2 pentagons of 24 boards. Each team will play 2x6 boards against all of the other teams. Imps will be aggregated, and converted into victory points according to the 12-board WBF scale. - Orange and Green group will play 2 tetragons of 24 boards. Each team will play 2x8 boards against all of the other teams. Imps will be aggregated, and converted into victory points according to the 16-board WBF scale. Final ranking of the groups will be determined in descending order by: 1. Victory points 2. Imps balance overall 3. Number of imps scored overall 4. Victory points gathered against the teams tied with (in case of 3-way tie) 5. Imps balance against the team(s) tied with. 6. Imps balance of 4-board sudden death (in case of 2- and 3-way tie) on May 08, 23.30 hours CET. 7. Draw.
Qualification procedure towards Quarterfinals
The quarterfinals will consist of 8 teams: - The first and second ranked teams of all 3 groups (6 teams). - The best third ranked teams. These 2 teams will be determined in descending order by: 1. Number of victory points amassed against the ranks 1, 2 and 3 of the own group. 2. Number of imps amassed against the ranks 1, 2 and 3 of the own group. 3. Imps balance in the own group. 4. 4-board playoff (2- or 3-ways) before May 15, 19.45 hours CET. 5. Draw.
Pairings of Quarterfinals
The 24-board knockout matches of the quarterfinals will be played on May 15. The pairings of the quarterffinals will be as follows: Match P - The winner of Blue group against the third ranked teamsof Orange group, if the best thirds come from Blue and Orange groups, or from Orange and Green groups. The winner of Blue group plays against third of Green group, if the best thirds come from Blue and Green groups. The winner of Blue group shall not meet third of Blue group in quarterfinals. Match Q - The second ranked team of group against second ranked team of Orange group. Match R - The winner of Green group against the second ranked team of Blue group. Match S - The winner of Orange group against the third ranked team of Blue group, if the best thirds come from Blue and Orange groups, or from Blue and Green groups. The winner of Orange group plays against third of Green group, if the best thirds come from Orange and Green groups. The winner of Orange group shall not meet third of Orange group in quarterfinals.
Hosts and guests in quarterfinals:
The quarterfinals will be hosted in: Match P - by winner of Blue group. Match Q - by second ranked team of Green group. Match R - by winner of Green group. Match S - by winner of Orange group. The other teams will be guests.
Qualification procedure towards Semifinals
The semifinals will consist of the 4 winners of the quarterfinals. Winners of quarterfinals will be determined in descending order by: 1. Imps balance over 24 boards. 2. Imps balance of 4-board sudden death on May 15, 23.30 hours CET. 3. Draw.
Pairings of Semifinals
The 24-board knockout matches of the semifinals will be played on May 22. The pairings of the semifinals will be as follows: Match T - The winner of quarterfinal P against the winner of quarterfinal Q. Match U - The winner of quarterfinal R against the winner of quarterfinal S.
Hosts and guests in semifinals:
The semifinals will be hosted in: Match T - by winner of quarterfinal P. Match U - by winner of quarterfinal R. The other teams will be guests.
Qualification procedure towards Final
Winners of semifinals will be determined in descending order by: 1. Imps balance over 24 boards. 2. 4-board sudden death on May 22, 23.30 hours CET. 3. Draw.
Final
The 24-board final will be played on May 29. The final will be hosted by the winner of semifinal T. The winner of semifinal U will be guest. Winner will be determined, in descending order, by: 1. Imps balance. 2. Imps balance of 4-board sudden death on May 29, 23.30 hrs CET. 3. A 24-board replay on June 05, 20.00 hrs CET, hosted by the winner of semifinal U. 4. Imps balance of 4-board sudden death on June 05, 23.30 hrs CET.
5. Any number of 24-board replays and 4-board sudden deaths needed to produce a winner. In no case, the Imps Teams Champion of Sittard BC shall be determined by draw. If necessary, teams will rematch on Tuesdays, originally scheduled for practise for external imps teams competitions in August and September 2001.
Playoff for 'bronze'
The 24-board playoff for third rank overall will be played on May 29. The final will be hosted by the loser of semifinal T. The loser of semifinal U will be guest. Winner will be determined, in descending order, by: 1. Imps balance.
2. Imps balance of 4-board sudden death on May 29, 23.30 hrs CET. 3. A 24-board replay on June 05, 20.00 hrs CET, hosted by the winner of semifinal U. 4. Imps balance of 4-board sudden death on June 05, 23.30 hrs CET.
5. Any number of 24-board replays and 4-board sudden deaths needed to produce a winner. In no case, the winner of bronze medal in Imps Teams Champion of Sittard BC shall be determined by draw. If necessary, teams will rematch on Tuesdays, originally scheduled for practise for external imps teams competitions in August and September 2001.
Playoff for ranks 5 through 7
Teams eliminated in prelims are certain of 8th rank, so the playoff is for ranks 5 through 7. The entire playoff consists of 24-boards knockout matches on May 22 and 29.
Pairings on May 22:
Match X: Losing team of quarterfinal match P hosts losing team of quarterfinal match Q Match Y: Losing team of quarterfinal match R hosts losing team of quarterfinal match S
Tie-breaking on May 22:
Winners of matches X and Y will be determined, in descending order, by:
1. Imps balance over 24 boards. 2. 4-board sudden death on May 22, 23.30 hours CET. 3. Draw.
Playoff for 5th rank (May 29):
Winner of match X hosts winner of match Y
Playoff for 7th rank (May 29):
Loser of match X hosts loser of match Y .
Tie-breaking on May 29:
Winners of the matches in playoffs for ranks 5 through 7 will be determined by: 1. Imps balance over 24 boards. 2. 4-board sudden death on May 29, 23.30 hours CET. 3. 24-board replay on June 5. 4. 4-board sudden death on June 5, 23.30 hours CET. 5. As many 24-boards matches and 4-boad sudden deaths it takes to determine a winner. In no case shall ranks 5 and 7 be determined by draw.
Playoff for ranks 9 though 12
Teams eliminated in prelims are certain of 13th rank, so the playoff is for ranks 9 through 12. This event will take place on May 15, 22 and 29, and consist of 3 pentagon sessions of 24 boards. Each of the teems plays 3x6 boards against all of the other teams. Imps will be aggregated, and converted into victory points according to the 18-board WBF scale. Final ranking of this pentagon event will be determined in descending order by: 1. Victory points 2. Imps balance overall 3. Number of imps scored overall 4. Victory points gathered against the teams tied with (in case of 3-way tie) 5. Imps balance against the team(s) tied with. 6. Imps balance of 4-board sudden death (in case of 2- and 3-way tie) on May 29, 23.30 hours CET. 7. Draw.
