2¨ = 6+ suit and 6-9 hcp.
2NT = 2425-pattern, and 16-17 hcp.
3NT = With an excellent ¨-suit and 8 hcp, South has certainly a maximum.

1§ = 16+ hcp, many sorts of hands possible.
2¨ = 5+ suit, 8+ hcp.
3§ = 5+ suit, less than 3-card ¨-support, 16-21 hcp.
3¨ = 6+ suit.
Alternative, but rather conservative bidding sequence in Two
over One and Precision:

2NT = 6+ ¨-suit, extended Jacoby transfer.
3¨ = Just 2-card ¨-support, and/or, less then 17 hcp.
Pass = We find South more likely to bid 3NT
after all. Some South will wake up after North's hesitation before deciding to bid 3¨.
The hesitation can only show, that North is considering the alternative of 3§, which
would show 3+ ¨-support and/or a maximum. Of course, EW should call the director after
South's 3NT in North America, or maintain their rights to do so in Europe,
since 1NT-2NT-3¨-3NT is supposed to show mild slam interest, not
an invitational hand, that has gone up after the North's negative
message of 3¨.
Alternative, but more likely bidding sequence in Two

2§ = Stayman relay, for which 4-card major(s) are not
required.
2© = 4- or 5-card ©-suit, perhaps 4/4 in the majors.
2NT = Balanced hand, no 4-card major(s), 8-9 hcp.
3NT = Indeed way above minimum.
Alternative and aggressive, but not unreasonable bidding sequence in Two over One and Precision:

1¨ = Walsh approach, virtually denying 4-card major(s),
since East is not strong enough to reverse, simply by his previous pass. East's
alternative is the inverted raise to 2§, which would show 4+ support in clubs, and 10+
hcp.

1¨ = 4414 and 12-15 hcp, or 2+ ¨-suit and 11-15 hcp. If West has only 11 hcp, he
should have 5¨ and 4 cards in another suit, or have 6+ diamonds.
1NT = Balanced hand, no 4-card major, 6-10 hcp. East downgrades for his 3334-pattern.

for 5§, but lots of perspective for 3NT.
