|
3¨ = 5+ support and preemptive, since Truscott-2NT
would show limit raise or better. North is too weak to respond 1©.
East's double = Responsive, asking West to pick his major.
3© = 4-card suit, minimum values. The stiff
king of diamonds is probably void.
More analysis to follow.

West's hand is less suited for a vulnerable 1ª-overcall
than the one he holds on board 16, even though he has 2 hcp more this time. However, his
suit is worse now, and his secondary honors pay off more at defense. North downgrades a
little for his singelton in South's first suit, and confines with an invitational jump
rebid of 3©. If he holds a singleton of
diamonds instead, he will bid the forcing fourth suit first.
More analysis to follow.

1¨ = Walsh approach, virtually
denying a 4-card major, so East must alert.
