1© = Walsh approach,
bypassing a 4+ ¨-suit when responder has a
4-card major, but is not strong enough to reverse. North must alert, even though South
will not always have a 4+ ¨-suit to bypass.

1ª = Walsh approach,
bypassing a 4+ ¨-suit when responder has a
4-card major, but is not strong enough to reverse. North must alert, even though South
will not always have a 4+ ¨-suit to bypass.
1NT = When both opponents have bid, one does not have to jump to 2NT to make an unusual NT
overcall, and show 5+/5+ in the unbid suits. At this point, South has several other ways
to describe a red 2-suiter:
- 2§ = 5+/5+ in the reds, and short clubs;
- 2ª = 5+/5+ in the reds, short spades and good
suits, since he forces partner to the 3-level;
- 2NT = 6+/6 in the reds;
- 3§ = 5+/5+ in the reds, short clubs and good
suits, since he forces partner to the 3-level;
- Dbl = hand too strong for such overcalls.
The unusual 1NT-overcall tends to show 5+/5+ in the reds with
short spades, and suits we don't want to force partner to the 3-level with.

2§ = One round force.
East hopes to find a fit in the majors.
2NT = No 4-card major, but some §-stopper,
since South is very likely to hold ace and king of clubs.
3© = East is prepared to yield to 3NT, unless
West brings 3 hearts. East does not fear a pass by West, since his cuebid, followed by new
suit, already forces game.
