2© = 3+ ©-support, but can be very weak over North's takeout double. Remember, we
play Truscott, where 2NT shows limit raise or better with 4-card support, and 3ª shows
4-card support and 8 hcp at most.
South's dbl = Responsive, promising 4-card ª-suit, or 12+ hcp.
2NT = West must be cautious, for East can be very weak. In competition, we only play short
suit trials, so 2NT is natural: (relatively) balanced hand, and 17 good to 19 bad hcp
(with genuine balanced hand, i.e. 433, 4432 or 5332, and
19 good hcp, we would upgrade, and open 2NT).
More analysis to follow.

South's double = Too strong to overcall 2¨.
3© = Based on suit length rather than hcp count.
East's double = Competitive. 3ª would be an effort to deny NS
their part score in ©, where East wants to invite to game.
4© = North must either have a relatively good hand, or long hearts. In both cases, 4© is
unlikely to become too costful.
4ª = West is on the very top for his previous single raise over interference.

South does not fear a pass-out, for if North has a maximum overcall, i.e.12-15 hcp, he
is obliged to keep the bidding going, if West passes 1NT to him.
