1© = Walsh approach, bypassing diamonds in order to find a
fit in a major as quick as possible. North must alert.

2§ = One round force, even when NS play Short
Club or Dutch Doubleton (we focus on the 'ball',
rather than on the opponent).
2ª = If West is interested in NT only, he will have to jump to 3NT with 14 hcp. A jump to
3ª with 14-15 hcp is unwise for several reasons, and not required, since East can still
invite with 3ª. As matter of fact, that's exactly what he does here.
Analysis to follow.

2¨ = Multi-colored, based on a weak-2 in hearts.
Dbl = Ordinay takeout, i.e. relatively balanced hand with 12-15 hcp, or, a hand too strong
for an initial single overcall (5+ suit, 16+ hcp).
2© = Weak relay. It's unwise to pass in order to offer 2¨ as
an alternative, for 2© may play better in the 6-1 fit, and 2ª will
play better in the 6-4 fit. Remember, the vulnerability is not right for
West to pretend having a weak-2 with a 5-card suit only.
