4§ = World convention: 5+ clubs, 5+ of a major, and about
12-17 hcp, not really the World's Fair.
More analysis to follow.

East can't open at the 1-level, for he must downgrade his stiff king. Too bad, for he
can make 2ª against the best defense: 3 rounds of hearts, § to the Jack, §A, *9,
covered with §T, ruffed by South, and overruffed by dummy, ¨K, ªQ, ¨A, ªA, and 3 more
trumps for East.

2§ = Stayman relay, which needs an alert by West, for East
does not have to possess a 4-card major. As matter of fact, he does not even have to be
interested in a major suit contract at all. He may just want to invite to 3NT, but not be
able to respond 2NT, which is used to show a 6-card ¨-suit. In that case, East would bid
2NT over any rebid by West, for after 1NT-2§, West is restricted to 2¨, 2©, and 2ª.
Analysis to follow.

1ª = Walsh approach in our system, so East must alert.
