1¨ = In Walsh approach: no 4-card major, unless South is strong enough to reverse, as
in fact, he is.
2© = 4th Suit Forcing, used to keep the bidding alive, for North may have as many as 19
hcp. To our opinion, 2ª, instead of 2©, should 3-card ª-support, unbalanced hand, and
6-9 hcp. 3ª should show 4+ support and slam interest, and 4ª an unbalanced hand with
10-11 hcp.
3NT = Balanced hand, ©-stopper, 14 hcp. With a hand too strong to open 1NT with, North
should backfire the cuebid.
4ª = Correction and signoff.
