Recommended bidding sequence:

West North East South
--- --- --- pass
pass pass 1ª pass
2§ pass 3© pass
3NT pass pass pass.

2§ = 4+ suit, 11+ hcp. West has passed before, so he should keep the forcing 1NT-response for other (weaker) types of hands.
3© = 4+ suit, 14+ hcp. A simple rebid of 2© would be a long way out of the line, even opposite a non-forcing 1NT-response.

Discussion to follow.

Mean NS Score =

Recommended bidding sequence:

West North East South
3ª 3NT pass pass
pass.

3NT = Hoping to find South with some 9-count or better. Could lead to disaster, but the risks of passing and doubling for takeout are higher. Even when the 4-4 ©-fit is there, NS are likely to face a bad break in the suit.

EW knock out the ª-stopper right away, but a 'safe' club to the queen assures North of 10 tricks.

Note that 5§ by South fails on ªA, ª ruffed, and ©K, covered and ruffed. In order to get away with down one, South must ruff the next spade with his king, and draw trumps. A ©-lead from East sets 5§ by two tricks, provided North ruffs the third round of hearts with the ace, and draws trumps next.

More discussion to follow.
