1 = West is too strong to overcall 1NT, and an overcall of 2NT would show the lower
unbid suits, here clubs and diamonds.
2 = East must bid, so that's what he does. 1NT is out of the
question, for that would promise ©-stopper and 6-9 hcp.
3 = Showing a hand West opened 2NT with, if South would have passed.
East must raise to game. There is no lawful way he can predict, that a © to the ace, and
a §-switch by South will beat the contract, unless South has bid 3§ over 2¨, a riskful
action when North has passed.
21. More discussion to follow.

1 = Muiderberg weak-2: 5-card ©-suit, 4+ of a
minor, 5-10 hcp.
2 = North wants to play 4ª, regardless of what South has. Semi-preemptive:
North's hcp strength can range from about 8-17 hcp. With slam interest, in our system,
North would have responded 3¨, showing 5+ ª-suit and invitational strength or
better.

1 = After 3 passes, it is wise to upgrade
with this nice 19-pointer, to describe hand, and to keep NS out of the bidding.
2 = Puppet Stayman, looking for 4- or 5-card major.
3 = 1 or 2 4-card majors.
4 = Both 4-card majors, asking East to pick the suit.
5 = Slam is close at best, and such slams should only be bid in an excellent field of
competition, which we can find, for example, in Maastricht SNS Tournament
in April, Carta Mundi Festival of Ostende in May, Scheveningen
Bridge Week in August, and A-Flights
of Regionals and Sectionals in North
America. The game of Sittard does not nearly add to these tournaments
mentioned, for only one EW pair makes twelve tricks in 4©.

1 = Muiderberg weak-2, which we have discussed already.
2 = 5+ suit, 12-15 hcp.
3 = Preemptive raise, for East takes away the cuebid
of 3©. West must pass.
4 = Competitive double, showing some support in diamonds, and 10+
hcp. Remember, East has smartly taken away the cuebid at the 3-level.
5 = 3NT may be a lay-down.
Not leading a heart would be giving up on the partnership.
24. More discussion to follow.
