1 = East is slightly short of rebidding 3§.
2 = Forces game. 2¨ would not even force one more round of bidding.
3 = ©-stopper, no ª-fit, 6-card §-suit already shown, so what else could East bid now?

De Boer makes a quantitative attempt for slam, an action we find difficult to understand. We have even more trouble of understandig Muller's pass, for he is at the very top of his bidding so far. The slam takes a §-suit to break 4-2 or better, and two finesses to work, or the ª-suit to behave very nicely. All of these nice things happen to happen, so what more do we want?

Recommended bidding sequence:

4©3 pass pass pass.

1 = Muiderberg weak-2: 5-card ©-suit, 4+ of a minor, 5-10 hcp.
2 = We don't overcall with weak hands over a weak opening, so South must pass this time.
3 = Semi-preempt, denying slam interest. This time, West is relatively strong, expecting East to have a fair chance to make his game. More often than not, West is weaker with 4+ ©-support, trying to give NS a hard time finding to right spot.

More discussion to follow.

1 = East's diamonds do not qualify for a vulnerable overcall at the 2-level, unless he has a full opening hand.
2 = No Bergen raises with 3-card support.
3 = Short suit game try.
4 = North is far more likely to hold a singleton that a void of diamonds, and a singleton suits South very well.

Verhees starts with 2NT to show some singleton. Jansma doesn't even ask for the singleton with 3§, for he feels, than any singleton will suit him.

Jansen favors a help suit game try with 3§, which suits Westerhof equally well.

Note that in our system, 2NT would be the help suit relay.

More discussion to follow.

1 = One round force, hoping to find a 4-4 fit in ª, oe less likely, a 5-3 fit in ©.
2 = East should not double, for he would not get excited about a §-lead from West.
3 = In this sequence, denying a 4-card major would be the same as showing length in diamonds, for EW have already shown a hughe fit in clubs. 3¨ should show a minimum, 3NT a maximum.
4 = With South having a minimum, North gives up on game.

More discussion to follow.

1 = Walsh approach, possibly bypassing a 4-, 5- or 6-card ¨-suit, so North must alert.
2 = With 16 hcp, West must double for takeout, regardless of his distribution.
3 = Minimum hand, tending towards 6 or more clubs.
4 = If West has an average opening hand, he should have a 4-card ©-suit, so it should ne safe to bid with this hand. Not, that Maas even bids 3© over Jansen's preemptive re-raise of 3§.
5 = Should be sort of weak, shwoing 4+ card support. With three clubs, or invitational values, South could double to show support.
6 = West denies a 4-card ©-suit, so he should have a 5-card ¨-suit and 16 or more hcp for this bid.
7 = North can't preempt twice.
8 = Ultimate invite to game.
9 = West accepts.

Note, that South 1ª-response has made it impossible for EW to reach their best spot, 4ª. It's still a hell of a job to reach 5¨, which only makes, when West runs ¨8, and crosses to dummy with ©Q, in order to finesse ¨ again.

1 = Muiderberg weak-2, showing 5-card ª-suit, 4 or more cards in a minor, and 5-10 hcp.
2 = Game is unlikely, since South needs to bring 5§ and maximum hcp strength. If South has a 4-card ¨-suit and a minumum, he will be in trouble at the 3-level.

1 = Walsh approach, (possibly) bypassing a 4-, 5- or 6-card ¨-suit, so North must alert.
2 = Should be invitational, not preemptive. EW still play 2-way game tries, but this hand neither qualifies for short nor help suit game try.
3 = West is way above mnimum, so he must accept the invitation.

1 = North has excellent clubs, but his hcp count does not qualify for a strong takeout double.
2 = Preemptive. East could bid (Truscott) 2NT or cuebid, if he wants to invite to game.
3 = NS hands appear not to fit very well, so it's kind of risky to bid 4© now.
4 = West could still bid game with an extra ace or so.

With his jump cue overcall in ª, Jansen shows a long solid minor, hoping his partner will be able to bid and make 3NT.

More discussion to follow.
